A self described “eccentric millionaire,” John McAfee was recently arrested in the small town in Tennessee where he now lives, Lexington, on charges of DUI and possession of a handgun, according to a news article at CNN.
Pill bottles on shelfWarrants clerk Sheila Austin of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said she didn’t know why McAfee, who once fled police in Belize, would move to a little town like Lexington. After being jailed, McAfee was released on a $5,000 bond.
According to CNN, the 2008 market crash resulted in the software giant losing most of his $100 million fortune. McAfee said in an interview with CNN last year that everything he owned was in Belize, and that he left the country with nothing in his pockets. McAfee fled Belize after being pursued by police who wanted to question him in the murder of his neighbor. McAfee claims he is innocent.
McAfee now owns a company called Future Tense Secure Systems.
McAfee claimed in an article at the NY Daily News that he had received a new prescription for Xanax, which was why he was impaired. He also joked on social media about an alleged shootout with police, which did not occur. McAfee said on Facebook that “the shootout was nothing remarkable. No one was hit.”
